Meet Our Pastor

Dr. Joe McKechnie

Senior Pastor

As of July 1, 2020, Dr. Joe McKechnie is the Senior Pastor at Mountain View, and his family and he are so blessed to be a part of this vibrant and dynamic church!

Joe grew up in Cobb County before heading to the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism. He spent several years as a television sportscaster before following God’s call into full-time ministry. Joe has a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary and later earned his doctorate from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas.

After seminary, Joe planted a church (Arbor Pointe Church) near Athens, Georgia. After 8 years he was appointed to Sixes United Methodist Church in Canton. Joe most recently served at Roswell United Methodist Church, where he was the lead pastor for Chapel Roswell, a new congregation aimed at reaching unchurched young people millennials (those approximately aged 40 and below.)

Joe feels honored to have a “front-row seat” to what God is doing in the lives and hearts of so many people. He has a passion for helping people identify and live out their “God DNA.” He is excited about the incredible future that God has for Mountain View!

Joe has been married to Catherine for 18 years. She is a school counselor in Canton. They have two children – David, a Junior at Kell High School and Grace Ann, an 8th grader. The McKechnie family has one more member – Tessa, a four-year-old rescue dog. When not at church or on the baseball field or basketball court, the McKechnies love college football, and they can be found playing family football games in their front yard or family basketball games in their driveway.

The entire McKechnie family feels blessed to be at Mountain View.

Ministry Team Leaders

Emily 1

Emily Adams

Director of Music

Emily and her husband, Tanner, have been at Mountain View since 2019. They have three children, four-year-old Theodore, two-year-old Arthur, and Clara, who was born in November 2023. Emily grew up in the South Georgia town of Thomasville, but her love of music has taken her to some really neat places: College at Kennesaw State University, performing opera in Italy, studying conducting at Oxford University, and now to Mountain View (which Emily says is her best destination yet!) Emily and Tanner also have three dogs and love going on little adventures as a family.

Jody

Jody Ray

Director of Children's Ministry

Jody taught her first Sunday school class when she was a teenager and the opportunities to teach children about Jesus grew from there.  She brings over thirty years of experience serving children and their families. She earned her degree in elementary education from Oakland City University in Indiana where she met her husband, P.K.

P.K. and Jody enjoy spending time together hiking, traveling, watching sci-fi, and playing games. They are the very proud parents of three grown children who grew up at Mountain View. Rachel is a graduate of Kennesaw State and works for Georgia Tech. She is engaged to Evan.  Aaron proudly serves in the United States Navy and is married to Ellen. Hannah is a student at Augusta University where she has a triple major in Mathematics with a concentration in Biostatistics, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Chemistry.

Jody’s best advice for young parents? Raising children doesn’t get easier, it just gets different. Pray over your children all the time, slow down and enjoy every stage, focus more on being in the moment than getting the perfect picture, and then pray some more.

Lorie Lasater

Lorie Lasater

Office Manager

Lorie has vast experience overseeing a variety of ministries. She is a military wife, whose husband retired from the Marines.

Lorie was born and raised in Odessa, Texas, and is a proud graduate of The University of Texas. She is married to Shelby, and they now live in Ball Ground.

Lorie and Shelby have three adult sons, each of whom she homeschooled through high school.

Lorie and Shelby love taking morning walks together as well as shopping at estate sales and antique stores. Their family loves game nights, as well as weekend getaways to Ellijay, Blue Ridge, or the beach!

Tracie

Tracie Schwebs

Preschool Director

Tracie is a lifelong Georgia Bulldog who was born and raised in Athens, where she graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in social work. As a college student, she sensed a call to enter full-time ministry to children, youth and families – or a job where she would wear jeans every day. Tracie went on to earn a masters of Christian education from Asbury Theological Seminary  and is in her 30th year of serving children, youth, families and discipleship ministries. Tracie has been the director of our top-rated preschool for 10 years, and she and her family have been active at Mountain View during that time. Tracie and her husband, Kent, are empty nesters (and none too happy about it).  Their daughter, Montana, is attending Asbury Theological Seminary and preparing to work as a full-time missionary, while their son, Charlie, is studying at American University in Rome, Italy. Still living at home are their dogs, Star and Ranger, and their cat, Murphy. Tracie’s life motto, which she has sought to instill in her children – and all the children she works with – is “to serve is to love, to love is to share Christ.”

Erin 3

Erin Parker

Preschool Associate Director

Sometimes referred to as an “Erin of All Trades,” Erin has been a part of many ministries at Mountain View over the years. Need a Sunday School crafter, a VBS leader, a Bible Study partner, a choir singer, a preschool administrator, a traffic director, or a Mrs. Fix-it? She can do it!

When not at Mountain View, Erin can be found with her husband, Chaz, eating at local restaurants, watching her son, Owen, from the baseball field bleachers, or driving her son, Wes, to the bowling alley. She Ubers her family everywhere, but if you were to ask for a ride, be prepared to sit on top of sports equipment as you post your negative review for arriving late to your destination.

Erin enjoys watching the Atlanta Braves play and going to the Rome Braves games, where she makes a side trip though the Berry College campus and reminisces about her college days. She has started a million craft and home projects which she hopes to finish “someday.”

Tyler grew up in this community and started coming to Mountain View when he was 14-years-old and quickly became involved in the Youth Group. Fast forward a decade or so later, and Tyler is now passionate about guiding today’s youth into a deeper walk with Christ. In addition to his role as Director of Youth Ministry, Tyler is a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserves, and has had multiple deployments.
